 Happy People Small

The ‘Happy People Competition’ is an annual campaign Demix (Pty.) Ltd. runs in our community for the children of the community. The goal is to spread happiness and to make a difference even if it just means putting a smile on a child’s face.

This year, we targeted three Abraham Kriel orphanages in the East Rand area, Gauteng. One house is in Benoni (boys) and the other two in Kempton Park (girls). The children in the houses differ in age and race, ranging from primary school to high school scholars. Each home houses about twelve children.

The campaign gives the children a chance to get creative. Each of them has to draw a happy person or persons, basically the whole picture must send out the message of happiness. They are allowed to use pencils, pens, color or anything else their hearts desire.

We pick 2 winners out of each home, which is 6 children in total and out of the 6 we pick an overall winner. Every child receives a lucky packet and also a certificate to show our appreciation. Each winner receives R300 in cash and the overall winner receives an additional R300. Each house as a whole is given a R2000 Pick & Pay Hyper voucher, the vouchers are handed over to the house mother. With this they can buy whatever is needed in the house.

The winning art piece will appear in some of our marketing campaigns of the year. It will also be used as illustration on the company mugs. Each picture drawn will be displayed on our website to show off all the beautiful happy people drawn. Every image holds so much truth, innocence and raw emotion. The images are unique and all of them are masterpieces in their own right.

The thing that makes the Happy People Competition so special is that each year the employees involved with the campaign are truly touched by these children and their art work.

We are taught a beautiful lesson each time we see these bright faces: Life is not about having it all and having the best, but making the best of what you have. It’s about being grateful and grabbing onto each positive opportunity that crosses your path. It’s about people, family and friends. It’s about laughing... laughing a lot. It’s about giving to others and enriching their lives. It’s about being happy, just happy.
